Orthodoxie.com has been around for almost 15 years in its French version, thanks to the work of a few volunteers. Its English version was launched in May 2018. Subscriptions allow us to receive minimum funds to ensure the operation and technical maintenance of the website.
Aware of the need to meet quality requirements, and of the increasing amount of information to process, we have come to the conclusion that we needed to find more financial resources. One of the ways to achieve this goal is the creation of this Shop, where you can find products inspired by Orthodox art, and designed by Orthodox artists. When you buy these items, you contribute to the existence and development of Orthodoxie.com.
We would like to specify here that the Church has not reserved the use of icons solely for liturgical worship. The Seventh Ecumenical Council (787 A.D.) itself stated the appropriateness and legitimacy of sacred images used, not only in churches, but on all media and in all places: « We therefore…. define with all certitude and accuracy that just as the figure of the precious and life-giving Cross, so also the venerable and holy images, as well in painting and mosaic as of other fit materials, should be set forth in the holy churches of God, and on the sacred vessels and on the vestments and on hangings and in pictures both in houses and by the wayside. »
And in the homily he gave for the feast of Saint Meletius, Saint John Chrysostom bore witness to the practice of the Church in his time: « On rings, seals, vials, on the walls of dwellings, and everywhere many put up that holy image [of Saint Meletius] » (P.G., L, col 516).
In that spirit, we propose to you to be yourselves witness to your faith in the modern world!
