“The Holy Synod met today, August 29, for its first August session, under the presidency of His All-Holiness [Patriarch Bartholomew], during which:
1) After examining the report of the canonical commission, Archimandrite Amphilochios Makris of Patmos was included in the calendar of the saints of the Orthodox Church. This spiritual father lived in asceticism on the island of Patmos and developed great works of public utility in the Dodecanese , in Crete, and elsewhere. He was the hegumen of the holy historical monastery of Saint John the Theologian, the patriarchal exarch in Patmos, and he founded the holy monastery of the Annunciation on this island.
2) After hearing the report of His All-Holiness [the Patriarch Bartholomew], Bishop Theodoret, until now bishop of Nazianzen, was unanimously promoted as the metropolitan of Laodicea.
3) In response to the request made by Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria and Exarch of Hungary, his protosyncellus Archimandrite Paisios Larentzakis was unanimously elected as Auxiliary Bishop of Apamea in Budapest.”
