The School invites all choir directors and choir members to participate, in order to expand their knowledge of Russian Orthodox Church music.
The program was originally created in 1992, with the blessing of the late Metropolitan Laurus (Škurla, +2008), in order to improve the quality of church singing in ROCOR (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) parishes.
Students from all Orthodox jurisdictions are all welcome, as well as non-Orthodox students.
The program consists in three two-week summer sessions.
As many participants come to improve their knowledge of church singing, without the intention of becoming choir directors, the School now offers the possibility of receiving a certificate as “Church Singers”, instead of following the traditional “Conducting” track.
In recognition of the Church-wide importance of the School accomplishment, the ROCOR Synod of Bishops declared it to be a Synodal Institution in 2018. It has its own board of advisors, and was blessed to adopt the official name of “Synodal School of Liturgical Music”.
Registration is open now for the 2019 Summer session.
