In his welcome address, the text of which was published on the official website of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, the Patriarch said how much he appreciated these seminars “at a time when our Christian witness is so important in support of a Christian presence in Holy Land and the Middle East.” He also stressed that the Jerusalem Patriarchate “is also promoting important interfaith dialogue”.
“The Church of Jerusalem, which is the mother of all the Churches, is the guarantor of the unity of the Orthodox Church,” said Patriarch Theophilos. “We acknowledge especially the role that the Russian Orthodox Church has played down the centuries, and especially during the Ottoman period, in supporting the Church of Jerusalem politically, diplomatically, and of course, financially”
Patriarch Theophilos also noted that there were difficult times that tested the relationship between the Churches of Jerusalem and Russia. “We must learn from them and work towards strengthening our Orthodox unity “.
“We must learn from the past. We must always speak and act in ways that support the life and mission of the Jerusalem Patriarchate in this region. We are the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, and we are under a moral as well as spiritual obligation to ensure that the identity and witness of the Orthodox Church in the Holy Land and the Middle East rests on the unshakable foundation of our Orthodox unity,” concluded the primate of the Church of Jerusalem.
Let us recall that during the fraternal meeting held a few days ago with Metropolitan Onufriy, the primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem expressed his support for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) and its faithful in Ukraine.
