The gift of King Abdullah II comes from the amount he received last November for the Templeton Prize. The King of Jordan fulfilled his promise that part of the prize would go to the restoration of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. The king had previously made other gifts for the place of the Lord’s baptism.
Patriarch Theophilos said that “this gift reflects the King’s personal commitment to the security and future of Jerusalem, as the guardian of the Christian and Muslim holy places in the city”.
