Schismatic Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and Archbishop Makariy reinstated by the Patriarchate of Constantinople

1036

“Patriarch” Filaret (Denisenko), the head of the “Schismatic Patriarchate” of Kyiv, and Archbishop Makariy (Maletych), the head of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Schismatic Orthodox Church, have just been reintegrated into the Orthodox Church by the Patriarchate of Constantinople during today’s session of their Holy Synod. According to Orthodoxia.info, an official statement is to be expected later on today.
“Patriarch” Filaret (Denisenko) had appealed to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew last June and asked him to invalidate the anathema pronounced against him by the Russian Orthodox Church. The exact details and conditions of the decision remain unknown, as well are the number of hierarchs potentially affected by this decision.

The official announcement is here.
